About this Role:
A comprehensive civil engineering contractor are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the growth of their recently established rail division. The rail division has been successfully operating for 2 years’ and seen consistent growth year on year and turnover forecast to double in 2020 – the right candidate will look to make an impact on the business and build the lasting relationships to secure their position in the rail industry with no limits on what they can achieve.
You’ll take responsibility of the commercial aspects of each individual project from tender stage to post contract and work closely with the operational team to ensure profitable delivery of each scheme.
Projects will range from £10k - £2 million for clients including Network Rail, governing bodies and private sector clients which may include station upgrades and associated civils, footbridges, roads, platform adjustments and track alterations.
Duties will include:
- Review tender documentation to ensure terms agreed are suitable, risks identified and mitigations implemented
- Producing accurate and timely commercial project reports
- Procurement of subcontractors, negotiation and financial accounting
- Ensure the commercial risks identified at tender stage are carried through post-contract and delivery
- Supervising the performance of the commercial aspects of projects
- Prepare interim valuations and agree final accounts
- Lead negotiation with settlement of disputes in relation to customer and supplier accounts
Upon joining you will assist with the growth of the rail business and assist the ongoing civil engineering arm of the business, if required. The civil engineering division delivers schemes across a mixture of highway frameworks, one-off Highways England schemes, local authorities and more, up to £8 million in value – the business prides themselves on exceptional self-delivery and operate as a principle contractor and sub-contractor.

About the Company/Client/Project:
The role will be based at the newly opened rail office in Hampshire. They are an expanding comprehensive civil engineering contractor specialising in one-off highways schemes, highways maintenance as well as growing their newly established rail division. The business has successfully been thriving across the South Coast for over 35 years’ with an annual turnover in circa £50 million.
